Uerige Doppelsticke 150th Anniversary (2008) with Hook’s Gorgonzola
Doppelsticke was created by Uerige for the US market only. It is what some might call a German interpretation of a barleywine style ale. It is rich and has flavors of molasses, candied orange peel and cedar. It also boasts huge hop notes to compliment the malty decadence. The Hook’s gorgonzola is savory and creamy. It blends with the richness of this malty beer to create the sensation of toffee candies.
Schlenkerla Fastenbier with Beemster XO
This is Schlenkerla’s Rauchbier created to be consumed during Lent. They say it is a good substitute for a “Brotzeit” (German word for afternoon snack), due to the nourishing yeast. The beer is smokey but has a caramel malt backbone to balance it. The Beemster XO is sharp which allows it to tame the smoke and make this a delightful and satisfying snack.
Schneider Porter Weisse with Cheeseland Ewephoria
Lately, Schneider Weisse has been experimenting a lot with their “Tap X” series of beers and producing some truly unique recipes. The wheat porter has Schneider’s signature yeast flavors including banana, while offering a bit of dry cocao as the variable component. The Ewephoria turns this this pairing into a banana cream pie with its creaminess and texture. Enjoy your desert!
