Gosebrauerei Bayrischer Bahnhof Leipziger Gose with Wilde Weide Gouda (Beemster Vlaskaas)
The Gose style does not comply with the German purity law the Reinheitsgebot, due to the inclusion of the spices coriander and salt. It is refreshing with its tart and salty flavors. This Gose works well with a well aged Dutch Gouda like the Weilde Weide. Wilde Weide is full of butterscotch flavor and a hint of sweetness. It also has a nice amount of creaminess so when enjoyed with the Gose you get an enjoyable salty sweet combination.
Brauerei Hofstetten Heller Bock “Saphir” with Chällerhocker (Gruyère)
A Heller Bock is primarily a malty beer from the German brewing tradition with little hop character. This lager also has an above average ABV, coming in at 7.4%. Chällerhocker is an Alpine style cheese from Switzerland and is made from raw cow’s milk. It is extremely nutty, slightly sweet and finishes with a very brown butter creamy flavor. It works well with the maltiness of the bock style because they have a similar core of sweetness.
